EV charger grants: check eligibility before the price.

A practical way to assess a grant claim and keep your installation decision separate from uncertain funding.

2 min read

There is no grant for every driveway.

The GOV.UK scheme for renters and flat owners has specific eligibility conditions. It is not a universal discount for anyone buying an electric car. Start with the current scheme page rather than an advert that presents the largest possible award as automatic.

Check the property, parking and vehicle.

Under that scheme, eligible applicants include people renting a residential property or owning a flat, with qualifying private off-street parking and an eligible vehicle. There are exclusions and evidence requirements. A house you own is not generally covered by this particular scheme.

Sort out permissions early.

You may need evidence of the right to use the parking space and permission from the relevant property owner or freeholder. Ask the proposed installer which documents are needed before choosing an installation date or paying for equipment.

Compare the full installation scope.

A charger price and a complete installed price are different things. Check the specified unit, cable route, protective equipment, groundworks and any supply or board changes. Ask how grant eligibility affects the paperwork and timing, rather than assuming a deduction.

Use a price that stands without a grant.

Voltline's example estimates make no grant deduction. They show an illustrative gross project cost so the assumptions remain visible. Recheck current GOV.UK terms before relying on financial support; funding limits, eligibility and application processes can change.
