The story
Fig, before the room warms
By eleven, the light has reached the far end of the table. Someone has brought figs in from the kitchen. A leaf rests against the bowl, green and faintly bitter, while the fruit gives a softer impression.
Figue Blanche stays in that interval between shade and warmth. Fig leaf opens the door. White fig fills the room, rounded by coconut milk rather than a heavy sweetness. Cedar brings the grain of the table back into view.
This is the feeling of an unhurried morning with the windows open. The city can carry on below. Up here, there is a clean shirt over a chair, a pale wall catching the sun, and no reason to leave just yet.
